Investments in New Homes

Although any home/building built after 1984 is eligible for building depreciation, you only claim depreciation on a building from your purchase date. Also building depreciation is based on construction costs and commences from the date an Occupation Certificate is issued. Thus a new building has a significantly higher depreciation value than an older building. So purchasing a new home “off the plan” would give the greatest return.
